Lorne Lanning and his team at Oddworld Inhabitants have finally pulled the curtain back on Oddworld: Soulstorm. The first original game in the Oddworld franchise since 2005 puts protagonist Abe front and center and resurrects the series’ original vision as a five-part story. Oddworld: Soulstorm first came to light in 2016 and is billed as the second episode of the fabled Oddworld quintology. I spoke to a Buffalo Technologies guy at Macworld who seemed pretty up on USB3 in the marketplace. He correctly said most new mid to high end motherboards will have USB3 in 2010 and ASUS has recently purchased 5,000 Buffalo USB3 modules for testing their USB3 motherboards. He said other companies have been purchasing their technology for testing as well (without going into detail but with that “knowing look”). Also, he noted that Snow Leopard has native support baked in for USB3, so it seems like it is on Apple’s radar....

A new report from the BBC today says that many iPhone users are reporting issues with the United Kingdom National Health Service’s COVID-19 contact tracing application. The app, which uses the Apple and Google Exposure Notification API, is said to be suffering from a “blue screen glitch.” Users report that the NHS COVID-19 app will get stuck on displaying a blue loading screen with a logo when it’s opened. Force quitting the app is said to accomplish nothing, leaving many users at a loss when it comes to finding data on exposures and even reporting a positive case....

As expected, Apple updated its iPod lineup today and I just wanted to add a few notes on the new hardware. The iPod shuffle and nano lines got new colors but otherwise are the same internally with the 2GB and 16GB storage inside and same skeuomorphic UI for the nano. To me this is Apple saying the long goodbye to these products the same way the iPod classic was ushered out....

At WWDC, Apple announced support for navigation apps integration into CarPlay with iOS 12, opening the floodgates for third-party maps apps in CarPlay for the first time. Sygic is a relatively-popular maps app for iOS, that focuses on downloadable maps for offline use as its central feature. It has announced that it will be bringing its offline maps to CarPlay. On the WWDC slide, Apple showed Waze and Google Maps icons in the CarPlay interface, but beta testers are unable to try out these features until the app updates roll out in the fall....

Digitimes claims that the next-generation iPad will launch in March with a thinner overall design and improved battery life. The catch is that Digitimes essentially calls this iPad update an upgraded iPad 2 rather than a full “iPad 3.” Interestingly, the publication says a real iPad 3 is coming Q3 2012. We find it highly unlikely that Apple would launch a thinner iPad then a full “iPad 3” upgrade only months later....

Apple is said to be working on an incremental operating system update for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard that will let its users enjoy seamless integration with the iCloud service, which is scheduled to go live this Fall when iOS 5 debuts. MacRumors spotted the above notice in a developer’s .Mac preference pane in TIGER after he had upgraded his MobileMe account to iCloud: This is actually the first mention of more detailed iCloud system requirements beyond a brief description on Apple’s iCloud page....

One-Punch Man: Road to Hero launched today for western audiences on the iOS and Google Play stores. The mobile game follows the storyline’s first season with dozens of chapters for players to overcome. According to publisher Oasis Games, the second season’s storyline will be included at a later unspecified date. Additionally, over 50 characters from the series will be included with the original Japanese voice cast reprising their roles. Oman has blocked Clubhouse on Sunday because it didn’t have the right permit, according to authorities. Some activists, however, described the move as censorship, as reported by Reuters.
