After months of seeing leak previews, HMD Global has finally taken the curtains off the Nokia 9 PureView flagship at the MWC in 2018 in Spain. The USP is definitely the amazing five rear mounted cameras complimented with the HDR10 display and in-screen fingerprint plus wireless charging included.
Design and Display
The Nokia 9 PureView comes with an aluminum frame and glass on its rear. The device is an IP67-rated device, means it’s not just dustproof, but water resistant as well. The body dimensions of the body are 155 X 75 X 8mm weighing around 172 grams.
The device has a 5.99 inch OLED display with 2880 x 1440 pixels quad HD+ resolution. The aspect ratio is 18:9 and Always on display. The display is protected by the Gorilla Glass 5. It’s also the first Nokia to support optical in-display fingerprint sensor.
Camera and Software
The rear shell of the Nokia 9 PureView comes with ToF (Time of Flight) and five cameras. The Penta-lens setup comes with a 2-megapixel RGB sensor and three monochrome 12 megapixel sensors as well.
The five cameras work in a sync allowing you to capture a 50-megapixel image thanks to the image co-processor. Each image maintains a 12.4 dynamic range stop. This is the sensitivity measurement when the brightness of an image increases due to the twofold. Thanks to the ToF sensor, the smartphone can capture 1,200 layers of data depth at a distance of 40 meters.
If you want more advanced editing, you can use the Adobe Lightroom and export the RAW images. The phone comes with the trustworthy Nokia Pro Camera UI making it easy to see real-time adjustments for the camera. You can also manage the exposure details much better from here. Google Photos app offers native support for the pictures taken by the Nokia 9 PureView. The video supports 4K HDR shooting that too at 30 fps.
The 20 megapixel camera sits on the front of the phone with an f/1.8 aperture and the Tetra cell Pixel Binning Technology allows you to merge four pixels to produce a much brighter image even in low light moments. The front camera supports Al Face Unlock option.
The Nokia 9 PureView runs on the latest Android 9 Pie OS and shall receive OS updates for the first two years with security patches delivered for three years only.
The Nokia 9 PureView runs on the Snapdragon 845 with camera algorithms optimized by using the SD845 which, has been available for a while. The SoC is backed by a 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage.
It supports a 3,320 mAh battery and comes with a Quick Charge 3.0 and PD USB. It’s also the first Nokia phone to support the 10W wireless charging mode.
Price and Release
Expectations are in for the price tag to be $699 and since the pre-orders have already begun to roll in, the device should reach the market by March 2019.
