Finally, after several years, the wait is almost over. In 2020, we will finally be able to see the next James Bond movie and learn the fate of Daniel Craig’s version of the iconic super spy. While the final Bond movie of prior actors has usually not led to anything major happening to the character, this could all change with Craig’s final outing. Not only is the title No Time To Die, suggestive of an end to Bond, but Craig’s Bond movies have all been linked to a higher degree than other Bond movies.
This article will list the 10 things we know about No Time To Die.
The Movie Is Set 5 Years After Spectre
While this isn’t explicitly stated in the trailer, various sources have confirmed that the movie will be set five years after the capture of Ernst Stavro Blofeld in Spectre. This huge expanse of time will lead to several plot points that will arise later in this list, most notably including, what Bond has been doing for the 5 years and what has happened to Blofeld for the past 5 years.
This could, in many ways, be the Dark Knight Rises of the Bond franchise.
Lashana Lynch’s Character Will Clash With Bond
There was a headline a few months ago that suggested Lashana Lynch will be the new 007. While this headline was undoubtedly written in order to shock fans of Bond, the same article also suggested that Lynch’s character would have received the 007 codename during the 5-year gap between Spectre and No Time To Die.
Whether or not this rumor is true, we certainly know that Lynch will be playing a ‘00’ agent and that she will undoubtedly clash with Bond during the movie.
Felix Leiter Is Back
Jeffrey Wright’s Felix Leiter hasn’t appeared in a Bond movie since Quantum of Solace, but the trailer showed that he will certainly be appearing in this movie. However, all that is shown of Wright’s part is that he will ask Bond to do him a favor. We don’t know to what extent he will appear in this movie or even if he will appear beyond this scene at all.
That being said, let’s hope that Leiter gets a big role in this movie as the character has a great history in the Bond franchise and it would be great to see him join Bond on a mission or two.
Blofeld Is Back
The end of Spectre kind of left Blofeld’s fate up in the air. While we knew he was about to be arrested by M, we didn’t what was going to happen to him after that. The trailer gave us the answer to this question. It appears as if Blofeld has been in MI6’s custody for 5 years since his capture and has been used as an information bank for MI6 agents.
However, while Blofeld may be in custody for a period of the movie, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the character escape and trigger some kind of drama with Bond. You don’t include an iconic villain like Blofeld in Craig’s last Bond movie and leave him in a cage for 2 hours.
Rami Malek’s Phantom Of The Opera Mask
While we’ve all been aware that Rami Malek will be the main villain in No Time To Die, we had no idea what the character would look like or what his plans would be. While his plans are still vague and unknown, which is expected as the trailer should not spoil the movie, his ‘character’s look’ has been revealed.
Malek’s villain appears to be a heavily scarred individual who sports a Phantom of the Opera style mask in order to hide his scarring.
The DB5 Will Be Back
The only movie car more iconic than the Aston Martin DB5 is the Batmobile. The DB5 has been central to the Bond franchise since its first appearance in the 1960s and it continues to look as stylish and cool as it did over 50 years ago. While Craig’s Bond has always been lowkey with its use of gadgets, the DB5 is still full to the brim of gadgets.
The trailer shows that the DB5 is using the machine guns embedded behind its headlights in order to fight off an onslaught from some henchmen.
M Is Still Working
While there was no reason to believe that M would have been replaced as the head of MI6, the 5-year gap between Spectre and No Time To Die certainly would have made it believable that M could have stood aside for another character to take over.
Fortunately, this is not the case. Ralph Fiennes’ M has been a magnificent version of the character and has managed to create a new and unique M after Dame Judi Dench’s iconic portrayal of the character came to an end.
Bond Is A Legend Among MI6
Perhaps the most interesting element of the trailer was Bond’s fame among MI6 workers. While Lynch doesn’t seem to be too intimidated by Bond due to her reluctance to work with him, others are clearly intimidated.
This is clearly seen when Bond delivers the famous line ‘Bond, James Bond’ in a scene in the trailer. The character he speaks to is clearly in awe of Bond and is surprised that he is even stood there. This could raise even more similarities between this movie and the Dark Knight Rises.
Madeleine Swann’s Secret
The central theme of the trailer focusses on a secret of Madeleine Swann. We see Bond asking her about this secret as the trailer starts, we see Blofeld talking about the secret to James Bond, and we see Swann herself looking at Rami Malek’s Phantom of the Opera mask.
Her secret is almost certainly connected to Malek’s character in the movie, however, the extent of this secret is still up in the air. Could Swann and Malek’s character be related in a similar manner to Bond and Blofeld’s characters? It’s certainly possible.
Bond Has Retired
Perhaps the most important element of the plot revealed in the trailer is the fact that Bond has been retired for 5 years since the events of Spectre. Much like Skyfall, this could lead to a period in which Bond must become reacquainted with life in the secret service and catch up with the times.
However, perhaps most importantly, why would MI6 bring back an agent who has been retired for 5 years. Either MI6 has been severely damaged by the villainous organization or there is something specific about the case that only Bond is able to crack.
