Gladys Berejiklian, the Premier of North-South Wales, said that she would not be ending the temporary construction ban early, since110 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the state. The Premier said that it would be highly irresponsible if they lifted the ban and continued with the construction work. She also gave her “assurance” that on July 31, the two-week ban across Greater Sydney will definitely be lifted.
The Premier also added that the disease can be spread by any form of human interaction, which is why the construction ban will continue until July 31.
Due to the ban, about 250.000 tradies are forced to shut down this week, and that’s the main reason why the building industry, Unions, the Housing Industry Association, and Business NSW are calling on the Australian government to end the industry pause a week early.
Both the broader lockdown as well as the construction shutdown are costing the NSW economy up to $1 billion a week.
