Nike today has announced that it is bringing its Nike Training Club app to the Apple Watch. Touted as “one of the smartest training tools available,” the app offers over 180 workouts, all of which can now be monitored directly from Apple Watch…

Nike explains that its push to release Nike Training Club for the Apple Watch comes following growing calls from athlete’s to reduce their reliance on their smartphone during workouts.

Unfortunately, one downside here seems to be that workouts still have to be started from the iOS version of Nike Training Club, with the watchOS version serving more as a way to check progress than actually initiate workouts.

The solution came in bringing the Nike Training Club app to the Apple Watch. “The resounding feedback from athletes worldwide was that they wanted us to put the best training app onto Apple Watch, and I think we’ve done it in a way that will make it an intuitive and invaluable training tool,” says Mike McCabe, Nike’s VP of Category Digital Product Innovation.

By bringing Nike Training Club to Apple Watch, athletes are able to monitor heart rate, calorie burn, and other statistics directly from their wrist, receive encouraging push notifications, and more:

  • Focus more on your workout and less on your phone
  • Monitor your heart rate, approximate calories and other exercise statistics right from your wrist
  • Achieve your exercise goals via weekly notifications encouraging you to close your Exercise ring

All of the more than 180 workouts supported in the Nike Training Club app on iOS are supported on the Watch version, including strength training, endurance, mobility, yoga, and more. The app is available as a free download on the App Store.
